The gas cap has been on the car for a couple of years now. I have to get it inspected this month (emmissions county) and yesterday I was driving around and the check engine light came on. So I went to AutoZone and they hooked it up and said that it was for emmissions which is usually the gas cap not being tight. The cap is tight and the light has never came on in 2 years. What could be some issues on why the light would come on. Any help would be great so that I can get it inspected. Thanks in advance.

I have heard of some guys having that problem with the chopper gas caps but if you have had it on there a couple of years without the light coming on it doesn't seem like that would be the issue. Unless the gasket on the cap is worn and preventing it from getting a good seal. Did they reset the light for you after they checked it?

might just try un hooking your battery letting it sit a minute and hooking it back up see if that resets the sensor.

Yea my boy, told me to unhook the battary for about an hour and try to see if it resets. The car is unplugged now.

That should clear the code. You may have to drive the car a few days after that though to go through some drive cycles to get the code to clear from your history. If it is like it is here in Atlanta they still won't pass you if you have a code stored in history.

How would I know it was off my history?

Really there is no way other than going back to Autozone to have them pull your code history which they should do.
