Does anyone know if a GM style sending unit can be made to work with my factory Dakota fuel gauge. I have a fuel cell that I would like to use, it came with a GM compatible sending unit, and I would really like to use my factory gauge.

not to sure.if the dakotas are the same ohm reading as the fullsize dodge, they might not cuz gm and dodge readings are WAY different. you might be able to get them to work with diodes or something, but id just change the sending unit to match honestly.

why dont you use the factory sending unit and pump and just shorten the plumbing?

Would cutting / extending the fuel tank wires mess up the ohm rating or whatever.. I'm no electrician by any means..

I extended the wires for the fuel tank on My S10.. and my fuel guage works half ass.. hald the time..

Shortening/lengthening wires (within reason) will not affect resistence.

Dusty, sounds like you have a bad connection.

GM sending units read 0 ohms empty & 90 ohms full, so you'll just have to hook up your meter, move your float (or slide up the ring or however yours works) & see what your ohms are at empty & full & if they match, you're fine; just splice it in. also they're right that if it's reasonable, the resistance won't change too much.
