First I will tell you that I have a 97 Tahoe that is in pretty good shape considering it has 213,000 miles on it. Has a few minor dings in it. Definitely needs new shocks and now on my way home, I ran into a problem. For the past week or so, the tahoe would make a "somethings wrong" sound, but just in first gear. Went it went into 2nd, it would sound normal again. This morning I'm driving down highway and all of a sudden it slips pretty darn bad. I haven't taken transmission class yet but I'm afraid I might have to buy another transmission. But I don't really want to. So, my question is, should I sell the tahoe as is or should I repair or replace the transmission. Remember, it has over 213,000 miles on it.

Oh, and this is sorta my daily driver but I do have access to an older dodge dakota that I could drive

I would have thhe transmission repaired and keep on driving it if you feel like the motor is still good. I sold my 97 Tahoe in 04 with 190,000 miles on it. The guy that bought it from me is still driving it and it has close to 230,000 miles on it now and it still has the original motor and transmission. It is going to be hard for you to sell it and get a reasonable amount for it with the trans acting up in my opinion because everyone is going to want you to knock enough off the price to pay for a new tranny.

I would replace the tranny If you have done you oil changes on a regular interval the engine should be in pretty good shape. I have a 97 fullsize with the 4.3l and its got close to 250,000 on it with the original motor and tranny and still runs good. If the motor isn't good then just sell it.

What you asking for it if you do sell it? I love that style Tahoe and could get my hands on a rebuilt tranny and motor real easy.

I inputed some conditiond into blue book and for "fair" it was $4590. I first need to find out exactly how much it will cost me to repair the transmission first but if i do sell it, I could go down to $3500. Its a 4 door 2WD. I debadged it and removed the hood rack and trim. I had also bought a rollpan for it that I never had installed.

Hey ken, you could go down to Noonday Transmissions on hwy 155 next to a muffler shop and have him test drive it to see how bad it is. I would recommend him and he is reasonable priced. He rebuilt one on my 99 yukon about a month ago.

I took it to Brads Transmission in Whitehouse. My dad knows 2 guys that have had their trans done there and said the guy knows his stuff and will do you right. I won't know anything til Monday though.

well, its not good news for me. He said it will need to be replaced for around $1800-$2000. My wife talked to him but I will go by and see it but he told her the bearing broke and then that screwed something else up. And since I can't really afford to spend $1800 to replace it, I need some other options or I will sell it for what its worth

u can get a used tranny for around 500ish or so and put it in there but i would get it fixed and sell it if not build it

you know of a place i could buy a used tranny at?
