its because you can weld through it with no problems with penetration. Welding over a traditional primer, is no differnt that welding over paint. The weld through coating is only to give the backside of your weld corrosion protection. On the surface your painting, you will need to wipe off any weld through coating with some thinner. Weld though primer is basically just Zinc. So its not designed for adhesion. But the backside of your weld should be nice and protected.

i dont know how any paint or primer will hold to the welding heat...so on the case of my stake pockets how do i sela the back side so it wont rust if i cant get to it

weld thru primer is mainly zinc, when it is heated by the weld it bonds with the metal which creates the corrosion protection kinda like the e coat that comes on factory panels...

weld thru primer is mainly for when you weld body panels together its just to prevent moisture from gettin in the cracks and rusting

you are only supposed to put one medium coat on the back side of the metal so it should dry almost immediately (like 2 minutes)but after you weld you are still supposed to recoat the back side with a self etch primer of some sort its just suppsed to help the metal that cant be recoated like a the backing panel or insert your welding to hope this helps
