well you can use a pearl. for the flake theres all kinds of different color pearls or i use a "white mica" pearl. it has blues, greens, purples, silvers in it. or u can use something a bit bigger called metal flake which i think is more like what u would see on a boat. just to kinda give u an idea

PUT THE COLOR IN THE CLEAR...WHAT EVER KANDY COLOR YOUR GOING FOR...JUST REDUCE THE COLOR AND THROW IT IN WITH THE CLEAR COAT...OR YOU CAN PUT THE "KANDY" COLOR IN WITH A BINDER(TRANSPARENT TINT)THEN REDUCE IT...THAT WAY YOU CAN STILL MASK IT OFF IF NEED BE...THEN CLEAR RIGHT OVER IT. IT SHOULD BE TRANSPARENT ENOUGH TO GIVE THE KANDY EFFECT, BUT IT WONT BE AS DEEP

Well if you want to flake out the roof, with actual flake you can do a base colour very close to the flake colour you want then wither use the flake buster gun or mix the flake in with an intercoat clear, lay it out, then clear it, sand it smootha dnre clear( 3 coats each time )

Or if you just want the kandy type colour HOK's kandy basecoats look very similar to a candy but are waaaayyy easier to apply.

Also if you want to have the sparkle of flake without actually flaking it out, Ice pearls tend to give tonnes of sparkle, and you can mix them in with the base colour....but be carefull with some base colours like black as they are pigment heavy and they will numb the effects of the ice pearls...

spray your gold heavy flake base, then comeover it with some marroon-redish over reduced base to get your candy red color. then clear it. depending on how big the flakes are its not hard.
the other thing is if your painting a roof, which isnt big, why d*ck around, just buy the right stuff, HOK isnt that expensive, what your goin to spend 200-300 for the right stuff? if not your gunna hate yourself for not doing it the right way in the first place, then youll end up redoing it later.

The only problem with using a basecoat over reduced is that the colour might appear translucent but it will never be tranparent and you will lose some depth because of tht...and unlike a candy the over reduced base colour will not change the more you put on, it will just get more of that same colour...unlike a candy where it will actually get darker with each coat.

If you don't want to spend grips of cash, there are other companies that offer great products...alsacorp.com is a great one, they have cnady concentrates taht you can put in with your own mixing/intercoat clear and they are fairly cheap.

What brand do you currently use though, as most companies now have a custom line that includes some form of candy paint.....and most suppliers charge basically nothing for a pint of candy simply because the intercoat clear is cheap and it only takes a small amount of candy concentrate to make the colour.

Oh and as for flakes, SEM has some good products, and if you want a different effect you can use to different flake colours, that are similar to eachother, and that way it will appear as though there is more colour shift beneath the candy.

And yes gold is a great base for kandy apply red, but there are other choices as well.

i mainly use ppg based omni plus i havent talked to my supplier to see what there is in a while so if i use an over reduced base it basically is thinning it out to give the effect of transparent so like 2 coats would prolly work pretty well if i did that?
