Okay so my buddy hooked up my head unit last night in the Mustang, since wiring is pretty much beyond me. Now the one in my truck, I like the way its wired. I can put CDs in and eject them without turning anything on. And When I turn start the truck, it turns on. When I shut it off, it shuts off with the truck.

The way he wired this one up, when you start the car the radio is off and you have to turn it on manually. And when you shut the car off the radio is still on. I don't like this, and its just ghetto. I've never had a radio like that before, and I can't stand it and I havn't even driven the car yet. His excuse was "You'll get used to it." But I don't want to. What needs to be done to make this one work like the one in my truck?

u should just have to wire the power wire to a source that comes on and off with the truck. u should have a remote wire that controls that. u should be able to get a wire kit from any parts store. only way it wont work is if ur wires have been cut into. it the factory plugs are there then use the kid.

Its a 67 Mustang, there were like 2 wires from the factory.

I know you have to have a constant hot to keep your clock and presets working. But what wire do I hook to an ignition, or accessory wire to give ti power when the car is on? The stereo came with a pigtail and plug to do the wiring.

not sure which wire, red or yellow, but it should just be hooked to your accessory. so only when you turn the key to accessory, it comes on.

Yellow-Constant 12V B+
Red-Ignition 12V
Black-Ground
Blue-Remote (should hook to an amp or power antennae or anything else you want powered up when the radio is turned on)
Sometimes there may be a separate wire Blue w/white tracer that will be labeled for a power antenna just incase you have an amp also and need to hook a remote wire to both.

Hope this helps, however some of what you are explaining sound like it could be features of the head unit. Just double check the wiring and go from there.

Thanks man, thats what I wanted to know.

I kind of doubt its the features of the head unit because its the same one thats in my truck, just the newer model. He told me he just wires up all his stereos like that. Says the music will remind you to turn it off so you don't kill the battery.

Ok, well hopefully you will find something up w/his wiring. Glad I could help.

I just looked. Both the red wire and yellow wire are hooked to the same wire that goes directly to the battery. I'm going to go get a fuse today and put it in, and hook the red to an ingition wire.

Yeah, and the stock head unit didn't even work. I think this thing had a system back in the day. The dash was already cut for a head unit, and there was a box in the trunk when I got it. I found a 10 disc changer in there too that I might stick in my truck. I want to put the newer head unit in my truck when I get it back too, because mine skips at random and scratches CDs.

And not having a stereo was reallly killing me. So when my grandpa offered to pay for a head unit and speakers I had to jump on that.
