HLA's, very common. I usually throw a quart of atf in the engine (in place of 1 quart of oil) and drive it a few thousand miles, then change the oil. The detergent in the atf really cleans the engine and emulsifies the varnish buildup, which is usually why lifters stick.
You can do the same thing with seafoam, or any other kerosene oil thinner, but its dangerous to drive on thin oil and you may dislodge large glops and plug your oiling system. I prefer the atf. And before yo worry about it, atf is just super concentrated detergent motor oil.
