OK I am looking at a Mazda B2200. It starts and runs, has power but is burning oil and smoking pretty good.

I wanna go through the motor, is there a prefered place for rebuild parts like rings, bearings, etc...

Also is there any types of modifications tips and tricks I should make while I have it tore down?

Thanks Ricky

i only use fel pro rebuild gasket sets. as for the bearings and stuff i don't know who would be the best to go with.

i took my pre-cat and hollowed it out, put 2.5" pipes with a magnaflo cat and a 40 series flowmaster. i am going to redo the exhaust with either 2" or 2 1/4" ...2.5" is to big, sounds good but no power. like you are going to get much power anyways. weber carb and pacesetter header. i also just installed a 2.0 head on my 2.2 and i absolutely love it much more than the 2.2 head.

what is the difference between 2.0 and 2.2 head. what are the pros and cons between the two

the 2.0 has mechanical lifters (can't float the lifter at higher rpms) the 2.2 has hydraulic lifters that the cheapest i have found are about 12 bucks a piece and are garbage. if you over rev it you can float the lifter and then you are stuck with the ever so lovely lifter ticking. with the hydraulic lifters when one goes bad you have to change it, when you start to hear the mechanical lifters ticking you just simply adjust them. you can easily adust all 8 lifters in about 30 minutes from start to finish.

i am not sure but by looking at the 2 heads when i had them side by side, that was the only difference i could see.
