The ball joints are not the problem on the Mustang 2 fronts. They use Chrystler screw-in style ball joints that get good throw if set up right. The problem is the spindle, they are too short (from balljoint to balljoint) leaving little room for bag mounts ect. Often the lift is limited where the upper arm hits the upper bag mount. S-10 clips are popular with rodders building older stuff, because of the arms and what not that is available. But if you want something more custom you could use a mustang 2 and build new uppers to resolve clearence issues.
