bagging the back. first truck ive done by myself. everythings going good but im second guessing myself...

first if im putting bag brackets on the axel. with the ground of my mig on the bracket could it get too hot and phuck up my axel?

second im welding in a one peice box tubing notch... im welding the inside of the frame and when you look on the outside of the frame you can see a shadow where i welded. which means good penetration right? but is that a weak spot on my frame now?

i know you are thinking if i dont know these answers i shouldnt be bagging my truck. but i still consider myself good enough. everybody learns what they know somewhere.

thanks,

the ground will not cause it to over heat yes the shadow means good penetration and it might be a lil weaker but nothing to be worried about

thanks,

I'd be surprised if you messed up your axle by welding a bracket to it..

The fact that you are concerned about techinal things like that is good.

Ground placement should not create extra heat in that particular area. If the ground gets to hot to touch when you weld, you have a bad ground. Find a new spot for the ground and try it again.

Your concern of the rearend housing bending from the heat is a legitimate concern though. Anytime you lay down a weld, the material that you welded to shrinks. So if you weld too hot only on one side of a rearend housing, you will have some warpage. It is possible to destroy a rearend housing with poor welding techniques. Fortunately, minitrucks don't typically have enough things welded to the housing to be too concerned.

As for proper penetration on your welds...Welds of any temperature will create a stress riser, but the chances of you stressing the frame enough to be a concern is minimal.

Minitruck fabricators have it easy, as far as safety is concerned. The confines and intended use of the finished vehicle are rarely much to be concerned about. As many beginer fabricators that there are out there, you don't hear to often about a truck coming apart and killing someone or causing an accident.

awesome... thank you so much. and yea the only time i ever seen a mini fall apart was when a guy i knew had an s10 and his roadgrater back-half fell off when he hit a railroad track too hard...

im glad my concerns are a positive thing....
