What is the difference between these two besides the obvious. I know the visual difference, but I am asking about strength difference...

What I am askin is do I need the bracing, or can I just use two or three crossmembers and still have enough strength.

what do you mean by bracing?? There are a number of ways to brace something. Welded crossmembers help shape the box of the frame but if you want to help reduce the possibility of twisting you can further brace the joints w/gussets. Give them a larger weld area. Most importantly, try to make all your welds 100% penetration if you can. The stronger the weld, the better. Not quite sure what you are asking but I hope this helps some.

Crossmembers are what I call the piece that goes between the frame rails. Bracing is what i call when it comes from the rear crossmember to the front and the angles towards the rails, like in the second pic.

A lot of stock frames are c- channel design with just crossmembers, so a box tube frame with crossmembers would be stronger. The pic where there is basically 4 framerails is even stronger yet if going for overkill strength. Either way is fine. Hope this helps ya.
