i want to fiberglass the dash in my 84c10. besides the fiberglass that they sell in auto parts store, what else can you wrap the dash in before you pore resin on it? i was told i could use fleece but wasnt really sure if they guy knew what he was talking about.

you can use fleece

fleece will absorb alot more resin and is alot stronger tha regular matt...it is an awsome base cote to start with

check out fiberglassforums.com, lots of fiberglass knowledge on that site.

You can use any kind of stretchy material, I have used, fleece, felt, speaker box carpet and even 100% cotton. Fleece works great and spandex type materials I have heard work good too. just get it tight enough so it doesn't sag and your good

fleece should only be used to create shapes. it and speaker grille cloth are used due to their ability to streatch and make compound curves when fabricating parts such as speaker pods and boxes. the stength comes from the combination of resin and mat.

if you are just glassin over your dash, you would want to scuff the dash really well. clean with acetone or paint prep solution to get armorall and other gunk off. cut some mat to fit over the dash. keep the pieces at a workable size. dont try to do it in one huge piece, itll be a pain in the ass. put a light coat of resin on the dash, lay the mat, and saturate the mat with resin. 2 layers of mat will definaely be sufficient.

then bodywork and paint to your liking

unless he is changing the shape or covering up holes he doesnt even have to fiberglass his dash right? if you are just painting it sand, clean, paint with flex agent right?
