You can get away with some really short bars if you set the suspension up properly. If you look at the Nash and the '37 Ford on my profile, they both have upper bars that are probably only 12" long or so and they both have more than 8" of travel. The pinion change on a properly set-up link system is completely dependent on layout first, then bar length second. Read my sticky, draw out your design and you can squeeze 10 lbs into a 5 lb bag.
