Has anyone ever done a solenoid setup for a hood release? Opinions??

You'll have to use a heavy duty solenoid, maybe screw-type. It's gotta have something like 150lb pull. You can however dismantle your existing release and alter it to use a lower tension spring with a more mild solenoid (75lb). I just know alot of trucks require quite a bit of force to pull that cable.

keep the origional one too. if your battery dies, you won't be able to open the hood to jump it...

You could if your battery's not under the hood anymore.

yeah, I figured I'd have to get a heavy duty one. I have already dismantled my original hood release. I have a cable ghetto-rigged just outside my bumper now. I have to use pliers to release it but it does take a good pull on it. So 35lbs solenoids will definitely not work And as far as the battery goes, it's permanent spot will eventually be in the bed somewhere. Just haven't done it yet

I used a bicycle brake cable. It works but it also sucks. I am looking for new ideas too. I pull it from the wheel well.
