Hey, I want to use 2 batteries in my sled. I have a red top Optima for starting, and a yellow top Optima for accesories. I am pretty sure I need a battery isolator, and to upgrade my allternator. What I want to know is, where to get the isolator, and how to hook it up? Also what is a realy good alternator to get? Thanks for any help you all can give me. Oh yeah, it's all going in my 95 S-10 , and I am running 4 VIAIR 380's, and a 450 watt stereo system.

you can use a ford starter solenoid alternator wire goes to the switch side of the solenoid and one battery to each of the large posts if it helps you any

I sort of get what your saying bgp1mpin. But would an isolator work better?

from my understanding an isolator is best.. ive been thinkin about doing the same in my s10.. you can pick up a decent isolator from autozone/pep boys for $80, but from what i hear, you're only supposed to run the same exact batteries...

Well Aotu Zone, and Advantage auto don't have them. But I am going to order one online. I know for sure you don't have to run the same batteries, it's just switching the charge from one to the other, and not letting the main(starter) battery discharge. I am just unfamiliar with the actual hooking them up. But I seem to have found out a wealth of info from all over. Thanks for all your help, but if anyone else is better experienced with them, please chime in with your knowledge.

they work about the same but a soloniod is cheaper the isolator hooks up the same middle terminal to the alternator the other two to batteries

the ford solenoids aren't 100% duty they're like 30 or something stupid mine went out i'd just get one from AIM or candospecialties.com has them too and they aren't morethan like 30 bucks for the 100% duty

Get a pac 80 I believe and you should be good. It should come with instructions. Depending on the size of your current alternator you may not need to upgrade but a more powerful one wouldn't hurt.

Get one from and audio shop, and if they dont have them/don't use them/can't order one, don't go back. For anything.

But yes, it IS an isolator you need, and you don't necessarily need an alternator. I'm guessing you have a stock s10 alt, 65-80 amp? Just upgrade your ground circuit first, and see how it does, it is FAR cheaper than buying a high output alternator.

Google "the big three upgrade" and it should bring you to it.
