I got a 99 ford explorer. It's 4wheel drive I want to lay it out. I'm not keeping it 4x4. I got a couple questions.

What do I need to do with the front crossmember. Replace it with toyota or s-10, z'it or what.

Can I lay it out and keep the back seats, how big of wheels?

Do I have to raise the floor in the rear?

Driveshaft problems?

ok ditch the front axle and tcase, have a 2wd output shaft put on it(trans has to be pulled apart for this). raise the lower conrol arms, steering rack and upper control arms to match so they will no be lower then the frame. cut the rear leaf spring hanger off and make the rear drop down flat and it will almost lay rocker. go check out ifcustoms.com tehre is some pics on there from where they raised the control arms.

Do you know what kind of clearance issues I'll have with the floor and the drivshaft and whatnot.

youll have ot make a tunnel from the front seats back, but it doesnt have to be more than 4 or 5 in at the rear most point.

But I can still keep my backseat?

If I pull out my 4 wheel drive stuff it don't hold the wheels on or nothin do it?

I spose since it's hard to find info on this there aren't all that many out there.

i think the axles hole the bearings togeher. not really sure. i know on the newer ones its not that case. but if worse comes to worse get some 2wd spindles.

Yep I'm going to have to get some 2wd spindles. Anyone got a set?
