86 toyota tranny question

My buddy bought an 86 toyota 5 spd and there is a lot of slop in the shifter. It moves around alot even when in gear. Does anyone know what would cause this?

There is a little plastic bushing on the end of the shifter inside the tranny its most likely shot. Get another one from toyota, undo the bolts holding the shifter to the trans, and replace the part. Its pretty easy.
