does anybody have more info on russD's megasquirt fuel injection conversion. I want to see more pics and details like parts, cost, power, and if its worth all the work. Thanksmike

Hey madlowmazda, So what all do i need to megasquirt my mazda motor? approximate cost? and how much power gain with cam, header, and msd? Thanks

it cost about 5 times to engineer and design it than it would for someone to duplicate it. Seriously, I wasted a ton of money on that setup. Jim helped me perfect it though, thanks Jim!

YOu could repeat it for about 800 if you built your own intake and MS like I did. If you buy the MS built, that right there is 600 or so. Then you need all the sensors, and a good set of ITB's. Buy extra TPS sensors, the honda ones are very fragile.

I still have some stuff I need to send the guy who bought my setup. He sold his mazda like 3 weeks later and I think has it for sale again. Asking 1000 if I recall. Pretty good for a sorted system that would take like 4 hours to install, maybe a week to get tuned.

did you notice any increase in performance? I was thinking about doing it to the mazda motor and then later adapt it to a better motor, so by then i will know the ins and outs and it'll make a motor swap much easier.

Performance increase with megasquirt is definately noticable.

For 400 bucks you can buy the weber like evryone else, and you are done, you can re jet it, but that's it.

For 300 for can buy a preassembled megasquirt computer, for 50 bucks a harness. Reuse all of your old sensors. For a fuel injection manifold, either obtain a mazda FI manifold, or make a custom setup, if you are good at welding, ITB's would be awesome. Obtain a high pressure fuel pump, wire it up, now, you , have, some, power. AND- you are ready for ANYTHING else you want to do, megasquirt can be adjusted to run with almost anything. AND- if you get tired of your engine- or mazdas- take it and use it on anything. You can't do that with a weber.

yea, maybe i'll do that this winter. So can you use an MSD type ignition with megasquirt? or is it hard to do? Is the ford edis a must or can you get by with stock distributer? what are the disadvantages? thanks a bunch
mike

sure you can use the stock distributor, I did at first and so has jim. EDIS is just like doing MSD, except there is no spark jump at higher rpm, its a hotter spark and more reliable than even an MSD box.
