in my 91 fullsize chevy i currently have 2 12" kicker comps 8 ohm. i have 2 10 inch fosgate he 2 ohms. what would be better sounding? i have a fosgate 800a2 amp. the 12's i have right now sound kinda crappy. i think they need more air space. anyone have any input?

Depends on your musical listening tastes. If you are listening to more rock you can typically get what you need with the 10's, if you listen to hip hop more the 12's are better suited to your needs.

Check Kicker's website to see what the proper box size is and try to match that figure.

The 2 8 ohm subs can be wired in parallel to present a 4 ohm load to your amp when it is bridged, and the 2 ohm subs could be wired one per channel or wired in series to present a 4 ohm load to your amp bridged.

Personally I'm a 10" sub guy, but most of my listening is rock or blues. I do plan on doing 15's in my next system but it will have a different kind of box design that throws the above theory out the window.

i listen to everything from rap to rock to pop... the way i have it wired now... pos on the amp goes to the pos on the left speaker. left speaker neg goes to right speaker pos... and right speaker neg goes to the neg on the amp.

Okay so right now you have your two 8ohm subs wired in series (one after another) which results in a 16 ohm load. To get the most out of your current setup (before changing anything that is difficult to change) try rewiring.

To wire in parallel (think of the positive as one side of a ladder, your speakers as the rungs and the negative as the other) you will just connect the Amp+ to BOTH of the speaker +, and the Amp- to BOTH of the speaker-. This will present your amp with a 4 ohm load. In this configuration your amp will be producing 4 times the power that it is currently putting out. This is how RF would prefer that you run the amp to get the best power output.

Hope that helps, let me know.

what he said^^

at 16 ohms, your amp isn't putting out nearly the power it's capable of
