i just sprayed my car highbuild primer is it ok to wet sand this stuff and to clean the car with water before painting or will the water affect the primer?

Its fine to wetsand for most primers. I wouldn't just straight wetsand it though. I would block it with anything between 220 - 320 grit dry then guide coat it real good and then wetsand it with 500 before painting it.

do you think 320 dry would be to rough before paint? also its cool to rinse the car before paint to right

id start with 320 dry with a block then wetsand with 400 or 500 like "Crazygenius13" said...

is this primer a sealer or surfacer? if its sealer water wont hurt at all... and if its surfacer dont let it sit wet for a long time and let the primer soak up the water... itll rust

and dont just rinse it.... wash it... wax & grease remover it and get the W&G remover off right after you put it on... then hit it all over with a tack rag.... then lay on the paint...

if you are spraying something like single stage 320 might be OK without wetsanding, I blocked Seth's Toyota with 320 before shooting the Hot Rod Flatz single stage on it, and that filled in after 3-4 good coats. If you are spraying a Base coat Clear coat paint then the basecoat will NOT fill in the 320 scratches. You will have to still wetsand all the places you blocked with 320 before painting or else the whole car will have sand scratches visible in it.

And to answer you other question, yes you can rinse it off, there will be so much water on the car from wetsanding (if you do it) anyways. You are supposed to keep the surfaces really wet when doing so, so that no sanding sludge has a chance to dry up on the surface of the car, and rinse each panel really good before moving to the next one, so you know you didn't miss any.

its a sealer and i'm using a basecoat/clear coat so i guess i have to go back and wetsand it with like a 400 grit cause i blocked it with 320 dry already.im doing some bodywork on the front of the car i only primed the area that i did the body work the rest i just sanded the clear so the paint will stick this should be fine right or should i prime everything that i will be painting?

what did you sand the clear with? are you just baseing over the primer and blending the color out? Or are you painting the hole car?

Yes sealer will fill the 320 scratches, but Basecoat won't. If you are just blending the color on the front, you should have sanded the rest of the car with 1000 - 2000 depending on the color, that way you don't have to shoot base over the whole car, anything more than that will require you to base the car then clear it. And if you already dry sanded the primer you shot with 320, then I would guide coat it, then wet sand it with 500. You would be risking showing sand scratches through.

If you are re-painting the whole car anyways, I would black the whole thing with 500 wet with a long block since you have to base it all anyways, that will give you the straightest cut and the best overall outcome.
