how to hook electric vdo gauge to oldstyle auto trans

hey guys i need some help. i need to know how to wire the electronic vdo speedomoter gauge up to my oldstyle auto trannsmission. i bought the the converted speed sender for the tranny to hook to the gauge gbut i dont know which of the three wires go where? sry no pics but if anyone can help post a reply. thanks.
