You can put epoxy over a repaired area. However I generally only use epoxy on bare metal repairs and usually apply my filler over top. I usually use a urethane based primer like 2K over my repairs as it is easier to sand w/finer grits. Epoxy is "tough". It is a very good primer but you will be pissed the first time you ever decide to wetsand a whole car primered w/epoxy because someone told you to. You can also buy a primer that has sealing characteristics if you plan on running primer for a while. This is known as a primer sealer. Usually comes ready to spray thus does not need a catalyst and any unsprayed material is reusable if sealed in a container. I usually just pour it back into the can they gave it to me in. However, no primer can stand the test of time in the elements as well as something that has been painted and cleared. So hopefully you will be planning on doing some paint work to this project within a reasonable time. Hope this helps some.
