ive done it in the past on a mill.

sometimes run an end mill, perpendicular into it, sometimes they drill a hole strait through, it depends on what style your looking for.

Ive heard it called alot of things, i allways call it machine gun style, just because alot of older machine guns have barrel shrouds that are done that way, to protect your hands from the hot barrel.

ive never heard of it done with a dimple die, and im not sure that its possible or desireable that way.

you cant dimple a piece of tubing since you cant get the die inside of it... like taylor said, you can do it on a mill pretty much drilling and radiusing the edge of the hole....

I've seen people drill holes in the tubing and insert a piece of tubing the same size as the hole and weld it in.

The dimple dies refered to earlier are used in flat piesed, cuz the die itself is 2 pieces. There's no way to get the second piece in the tube.
