How hard is it to shoot? Any body know what the over lap is? I have painted some stuff but never with candys or anything. If i was to have it done what is the going price on a 63 impala 2 door hardtop? Thanks in advance.

base then clear then pearl and/or flake. not a big deal, look to spend at least 5 grand w/materials to have a reputable shop spray it for you.

HOK recommends a 75% overlap on the first few coats of candy then you can go to 50%. If you don't get it on even it looks blotchy! I would definely experiment with the technique before I committed to paint my whole car. Buy this book by Jon Kosmoski it is good reading!

Good luckt

yea def. take your time. candy is easy to make it look all blotchy. most body shop will charge you more just to spray candy. test panels are not that hard to get right its when you have a big panel like the hood or roof that you will have a harder time with.

id say on a classic like your impala, your lookin at a good bit of change for the job to be done professionally. the shop my buddy had his neon sprayed at charges more the spray classics because the owners are typically more picky about things.

for kandy, id say AT LEAST 5 grand, if not a couple grand more than that. id be a little worried if it was much less.

Candy is NOT for a beginner... First you have got to get a perfect coat of silver or gold, and I mean perfect as any tiger striping or blotchyness will show thru and be amplified by the candy coats. Then you have got to be able to lay out around 3 0 6 even coats of candy and you cannot just go over and fix them, if you get striping you might as well sand it down and go bak to the base again. It has a lot to do with gun control, overlap, and speed, but proper gun setup makes a huge difference as well. Most shops using HOK will start at around 5 grand, and go up from there. But if you want a near candy effect, for less money and an easier sprayout go to the kandy basecoats from HOK...they have s very kandy esque appearance but are considerably easier to spray.

Its not as easy as sanding it and re-spray, because if you base over kandy, the kandy will bleed into the basecoat, and change the colour, then you will be kanding over a differnt base, and your colour will be differnt. I sprayed a kandy red on my truck, with no striping or moddling, but the key is to have paint experience, and lots of time. I spent 24 hours in the booth between my base, kandy, ghost flames, airbrush work, and clear.

I meant sand it all back off...then restart...not just scuff the candy.
