I've sold a lot of these pans, and most people are just bolting them on (ours have endcaps that let you screw them into the sides), then build up some fiberglass structure over the top, sand it flush, and prep and paint like normal.
One of our local customers has had one on his truck for a couple of years (daily driven) with no cracking yet.
Of course, if you drag it or hit something, the seam will be the first place to crack, but if you take care of it you should get years of use...
If you're not sure, just bolt it on there- it's better than the stock bumper, at least!!

but i hear that fiberglass wont stick to steel? is that true

I've seen it done so many times it HAS to be possible!
I would imagine you'd want to really rough up the steel- 50-80 grit- so there's lots of surface area for the glass to hold on to.
You would want to feather the area around the seam several inches in each direction to blend it in and add structure, but I would have to say it's completely doable!

I'll look for a picture or two for reference.

thanks phil, and then i would use body filler on the pan and then paint??

I hope the REAL body guys on here will hop on here and correct me if I'm wrong, because this is all second-hand knowledge I'm spreading, but that's how I understand it- build structure with the fiberglass, smooth it out with filler, and primer/ paint as you would any other panel.

Good luck, and don't lynch me if it turns out bad!!
