To start off...I have a 1988 Mazda B2000, With a weber, Holley fuel pressure reg. set at 4 lbs, Pacesetter header, and ign. timing set about 6 degrees above TDC.

Now i know these engines arnt beasts.(My exp. is with probe f2t's) BUT there shouldnt be a drop in performance from the stock crap. I've been trying to tune this truck for a couple months with no avail..Seems it has no balls what so ever...

My first problem is that if the truck sits for more than 5 days i have to crank it for around 20 seconds to get fuel to the carb. I have a mechanical fuel pump.

my second problem is that no matter what i do i cannot get the engine to quit running rich. Seems to always be smelling like fuel from the exhaust.

lastly i have pump the gas during cranking to get it to fire...

anyone have any ideas?

Thanks again...

does it back fire? vacuum leak. make sure you plugged all the little lines when you put the carb on. Sometimes you can tighten the adapter plate too much, sometimes not enough, and get a leak at the carb base. The rich running smell is actually a cylinder not firing because the A/F is off and so all that unburnt is coming out the pipe.

if thats not it, check the vacuum can on the dizzy. Its easy to check, unplug the little line to the carb (you DID run the vacuum can line from the dizzy to the carb, didnt you?) and suck on it. It wont kill you. If you can pull air like sucking through an empty straw, the can is bad and needs replaced. If you can pull a vacuum with your mouth, the can is ok.

Give me info on the carb, new? used? 32/36? 34/34? 38/38? Is it a carb kit made for a Mazda or did you buy it from something else?

Did you try tuning it before you set base idle? I can describe that process if not......

Well no backfires ever....

The carb is a 32/36 complete kit for the mazda. Bought it new about 9 months ago.

I checked again and actually did suck on the vac advance hose...isnt free flowing....

I checked for vac leaks and couldnt find any....and i mean i CHECKED...lol

I might not have tuned it correctly before setting the idle...so maybe that info might help....
