I bought a skin for a first first gen s-10 and i was wondering how others have done them. I have had people tell me do it over the old one and cut off the old one. So id just like to hear from someone who has done it.

DESKIN THE OLDGATE THEN PUT YOU NEW SKIN ON

Take the old skin off first then weld the new one on. If you leave the old one on it will not line up with the bedsides.

^^^Yep. Take off the old skin with something like a right angle grinder and then weld the new one on. Good as new. How much did it cost you by the way?

I figured the old one had to come off but i had a couple people tell me i should leave it on. Thanks for the help. I bought it back in Feb so i honestly dont remember how much it was.

Well if its a grant skin you better not take the whole factory skin off. grant skins aren't made to hammer a dolly back on like most of your door skins. i have always left about 1/2 inch of factory skin all the way around the tail gate then put the new on and weld it back together all the way around. if done correctly all you gaps stay the same and you wont even need body filler.

I get what your sayin. The one i got is a FBI skin. It gets dollyed on the bottem and im guessing welded at the top. I gotta make pieces for the side to make up for the dip that in the middle of the factory skin.
