Just curious to what size or "guage" flatstock or angle iron you guys r using when dooring your rides. 1/8 seems thin and 3/16 which is double seems a little overkill.

1/8 * 2= 1/4
but anyway..i have never doored a ride, but I would not think 3/16 was overkill.

Well theres not really anything in between 1/8" and 3/16" that you can readily buy off the shelf at any steel outlet. I know some people have used 1/4" and even 3/8" plate. I guess it depends on if you will be dragging that part of the body. 3/16" is equivalent to 7 gauge, and 1/8" 11 gauge. Depending on what material you decide to use you may need to know that.

i used 1/8 on mine but cut the rocker a little long and then folded it over and welded it on the underside. its plenty strong, not much draggin gonna be goin on though.

i still have 1/8" plate on the bottom of my s10 that i've drug to hell and back and still havent went through it.

i'd prob 3/16 it for the long haul, 1/8th if you only plan to drag here and there.

i think it kind of depends on how much structure you have left once you cut the rocker. on my brothers truck (imdored) we left some of the bottom body line, even without the plate welded in there wasnt really any play or flex. i can see in some scenarios on certain trucks where using a thicker plate would definitely be necessary. as with most trucks, its all relative imo

Im running 1/8"x4" plate steel all the way around on my truck now.. I dont plan on draggin it anymore so the 1/8" is fine, when i was draggin it all the time i had 3/16" under it and that lasts forever.. especialy when your frame sits perfectly level with your new rockers.

Just make sure the plate hangs a little lower than the bottom of the door, else 10ft of draggin and your doors will split open and then who cares about the plate ... your doors now look like a wavy ocean.
