anybody know what the amperage of a stock alternator is on an 04 chevy avalanche with the 5.3?? i need to upgrade the alt. to keep my lights from dimming and for some other things possibly down the road.

where would you recommend either getting the alt rebuilt or ordering a new one?

its a 60 amp i think.you can order 100 amp from summit racing for like a $120.

ill need somewhere in the neighborhood of 150 amps. between the stereo and possibly having compressors i want to have enough power for both

there is no way that the factory one is only 60 amps, that is very very low amperage especially on a full size truck with a v8. yea i have heard a lot of good stuff about irragi and also try alterstart on ebay too, i got there 275 amp alternator, it kicks 15 volts i have a 3000 watt sys. and compressor and dual electric fans and it powers all that very well

I would venture to guess anywhere from85-105 amps stock on a FSC.

Why not upgrade the grounds and wiring running to from the alt to pos battery terminal. Most people see an improvement there. Then later on when you upgrade to a higher output alt( if necessary ), that part of the install will already be done.

I have an Irragi alt on my Mazda. It is a chevy case and he built it for around 250 amps( I am sure that isn't at idle, but can't remember for sure ).
