Hello, just gonna start a thread of a frame build were doing over at Barely Legal Fabrication right now. Trying to let people know that we build other things than control arms lol, auctually, control arms are the least of what we build....
Its 94 i think toyota Std cab, short bed.
2x3 - .25wall frame rails from the firewall back, 1.25-.25wall DOM tubing for everything else.
The 2x3 section of the frame is the vehices air tank. The link is a triangulated 4 bar that crosses over the frame. All parts are made in house obviously, and this one will also be recieving a set of tubular control arms, Air-over-shock bags at all 4 corners, and will lay rocker on 20s. We kept the frame profile in the back very low to keep the floor for the bed depth stock, little bed mods will be needed
heres the build pics:
Came in as a stock truck.....stripped it down to a bare frame and put it on the frame table. The dissassebly of the suspension was more of a pain in the ass then anyting, it was super corroded and fought us all the way.
We then jigged it in place, marked the bodymounts, and then proceded to cut the part of the frame off that we didnt want.
Then, I layd out the sections of 2x3 that we wanted, and got all the proper angles layed out and miter cut all of the ends so they had equal angles into the rise and fall of frame design.
Then, we started laying out the tubular mounts that we would use for the body mounts, and the connecting pieces for them.
I dont have as many pics from the previous stage, to its current form. But from those previous pics, we choose and mapped out a good location for all the link bars, bent up some kick ass x-members to hold all the link mounts in, and finished setting in all of the bodymounts.
This is the picture im most proud of. Garret told me that he wanted the body to drag first before the frame, so that when it was layed out it wouldnt fuck up the air tank frame. All the measuring, and everything payed off, because when its layed out, the frame hovers above the ground perfectly. Thats whats up! The rockers lay flat, and the frame hovers!!!!
As of right now, its back at the customers hous being put back togehter, its going to be a sick build when its all done, hes got some great plans for it!
