im getting ready to lay down a metalic silver on my truck should i lay the silver then let it flash and lay clear over it or lay the silver let dry wet sand and then clear
you can let the base dry for about 30 min and sand with 1500 to remove any dirt but if you do you have to put a couple more coats of base before you clear it
if you are using dupont chromabase, do not sand more than a lil bit, or else you will have delaminent problems, you only need to sand it there is dirt in the base, then a few coats on top of that, then wait 30 mins, then clear!
ok so how exactly would i do a two tone, should i paint the two colors then clear everything or paint the top color and clear, let dry, mask, paint the bottom color clear, sand the whole truck and clear the whole truck? or am i missing something
I like to spray the bottom color first, let it dry, mask off where I want the two tone to start, then spray the top. After its dry, I unmask and spray clear over the whole truck.
don't sand the base, otherwise you will have to recoat it. and I agree with what was said above. spray both of your base colors first, then clear it all at once.
I don't think that you can really sand silver base coat with out mess'n up the reflection of silver...I made the mistake if trying to lightly sand out a little over spray off of some metallic siver base, and it was always noticable because the silver didn't light up as bright where it was sanded. For me it caused an expensive re-do...I wouldn't recomend it...But I just speak from experience...not textbook knowlage......Alot of these guys on here really know there shit! "Lost Cause"
^^ I worked with a guy a while back that sanded the base on a metallic two tone flame job. He didnt even see until he sprayed his clear.
He ended up re-prepping and masking off his flames all over again to fix the metallic on the bottom color. I didnt stick around to see how it turned out though.
