there not boxed at all unless its on a 98 up, then its to the tranny crossmember just like an s10. i still say 2x3 would have ben teh better choice.

The parts I am worried about are all the cuts in it, I would just recommend boxing it at least.

i would keep what you have and finish boxing it in with some 3/16" all the way around. it will look clean when its all said and done

The ranger guys were giving you a hard time because you came on there asking what you should do, yet you already had your mind made up to use the 2x2.
I saw that, so I suggested that you double it up at least, which you have done.
With some good crossmembers I dont think you will have any issues. That being said, 2x3 would still have been better. So its not a you were right and the ranger guys were wrong situation. What you are doing now will work. Doesnt mean that 2x3 wouldnt have worked and looked better, and there is no way in hell I would trust a single 2x2 rail which I believe was your original intent.

The only problem I see is at the front in front of the tubing and welds are the I beams you should have went ahead and swapped in a toyota clip. but looks fine otherwize.

Personally, I would have used 2x3, and channeled the floor if I had to. I don't like the idea of all the 2x2, but it will work. It just seems like very little room left over to run exhaust AND cross members together. But, go ahead and fish plate all the mitre joints, because its just a good idea. And don't make them square.

i dont like all the miter joints but did it to fit the stock frame, i placed the 1" peices of 2x2 that are connecting the rails so they are over the joints for strenght, so the only place that i can get to is the inside of the inner rail which i will do. the outside of the outer rail is "plated" by the frame and inbetween the joints is the spacer. thanx alot for all the opinions guys, after reading all the rps opinions i was ready to scrap the truck cause they were tryin to make me beleive it was a death trap

2x3 woulda fit with the bodydrop... the thing 2x2 doesnt offer by itself is torsional stiffness... i would throw all that weight in the scrap and start with 2 rails of 2x3....

so basiclly what it comes down to is the question of, should it be ok and safe to use? i know 2x3 would have been a better choice but i had all the 2x2 i got for free and thought it would be strong enough
