I'm supossed to meet my boy tomorrow to get some shit together to shave his 4 door up. I was saying 20 gauge would be fine for the doors, but one of his friends said to shave the license box to use like a 16 0r 14, which sounds waaay too thick. I figured 20 might be a hair too thin for such a large area, but 14 just sounds like over kill. Any one else filled that in?

when i shaved my civic we used 14 gauge it wasnt overkill in my mind cause you dont have to worry about the plate flexing or bowing as much due to welding however the honda sheetmetal is thin as fuck and you have to worry about warping it. take your sweet ass time ill tell you that.. my truck liscence plate box was also 14 gauge i tried 20 or 18 gauge on a neon before i burnt right thru it in several spots..

i understand that 14 won't warp as easy, but the diffrence between it and the stock metal just seems too great of a diffrence, i would assume it might show up in the sun if the car get hot. And i'm not conserned aout welding thro, we welded 20 all day long in school. Its just his friends said he tryed 20 and it didn't hold its shape, but i think he just dosen't know what he's doing

it's alot easier to cut it off at the body line and skin it.

use at least 18 if not 20, 14 ga is way too thick for that thin of a trunk....i dont even make bed floors out of 14 ga.... 20 ga. should be fine for a honda,

no i sure dont.....all i can really tell you is that i cut it off right underneath the body line and butt welded all the way across, and i used 18 gauge.
