was wondering what years of the yota rear end would be best for a five lug swap on and 78 datsun 620. and also would hardbody spindles or toyota spindles work for the front. any help woould be great.

I have a 91 rear end in my hardbody. i'd try to get a 88-94.. some people like the taco rears, but i think they're narrower. mine fits and looks just like the hb rear, width wise.

as for the spindles. that depends. You can go about trying somethings if you have the ability. You can see if hardbody arms will bolt up, if not, you can try to see if hardbody balljoints will bolt in, if not, you can weld up your current holes and redrill for hardbody, or you can get tubulars made. Another option is to wait till Barely Legal comes out with their uniballs that bolt in, get them for a hardbody tapper with a 620 bolt pattern.

You have a lot of options, it depends what route you're willing to take.

If I had your truck, I would probably do a yota front clip and swap the rear end. If you want to go big wheels, a yota clip gets bumpsteer when youre on 19's and 20's and bagged. You can also do a hardbody front clip, then get your spindles machined to take the yota rub/rotor (although, Max has found a seal, not the federal POS seal, but a different one, that you only need a .060 shim, not a .250 like on the federal seal) and max hasnt had any problems with his shit breaking.. my stuff broke on the federal seal, i now have machined spindles.

Sorry for the long reply, good luck on the truck.

A 620 is going to be a narrower truck than the newer trucks, like Hardbodies or Mazdas whatever. I would look for a 79-83 axle, which is 55" wide. Or a 73-78 axle which is 53". Whichever is closer to your stock width would be best.

i didnt think they were seth.. i thought they got really smaller, when you hit the 5 series. oh well.

The 5 series, definitely smaller, but the 620 is still smaller than an 80s or 90s minitruck. A 620 is about the same size as my truck. I have a picture of my truck next to a bodydropped HB, and its about 3 inches shorter (height), and 4 inches narrower. I also measured to compare against the Mazda I bodydropped, and its about 4" shorter.

78 is the first year 620s used spindles instead of kingpins and heres the cool part of that the 620 balljoints is exact same as a hardbody so the newer spindle will bolt on directly then you can do the 5 lug swap if you machine the spindle to accept the toyota hub im not sure what you have to do to make the tierods fit up for the steering

rack and pinion it. and the tacos are wider than the 85-95s. as they get older, they get narrower. id run an older one anyways, to get a bit more dish out back.
