I have a 92 full size with the 4.3, i just shut it off, 5 minutes later tried to start and it turned over very hard almost like the battery was dead then nothing, no clicking or anything. i tried jumping it off and still it wouldn't do anything. finally i push started it, but all my lights were dim(interior, headlights, taillights, etcs) also none of the gauges worked except the speedo. This leaves me to believe its a wiring problem somewhere. Anyone ever had the same problem or have any suggestions?

check your grounds first

Are your battery terminals clean and tight? Get it started and take it to autozone or advance auto they will test the battery, starter and alternator for free.

i'm thinking its a ground also, the battery terminals are clean and tight, once i got it running i drove it about 35-40 minutes and all the lights kept getting dimmer and dimmer, once i got where i was going it finally died, so it's not charging very good if any, but that doesn't explain why it won't even turn over.

If its not charging or not charging good, its running on the battery so as you drive the battery gets weaker & weaker. That will cause it to not turn over.

i had the same exact problem and i took my battery to autozone and they told me o no its good. Then they put it on the charger and the last five minutes it showed that it was a bad battery.

i don't think its the battery because i had just got out of it and everything was working perfectly normal, got in it not even 5 minutes later and nothing it wouldn't even turn over trying to jump start it. it was charging fine before hand

after i push started it is when it wasn't charging i checked the alternator and the wires weren't loose, so idk

could be a dead cell in the battery. your best bet is to take it to autozone or advance and have the battery and alternator tested.

I know for a fact that if your alternator is out and you keep jumping your truck off, you will kill the battery.

One thing you may check is the ignitor wire that plug into the side of your alternator and make sure your getting power there.

isnt there a fuse-able link between the hot side of the battery and the hot box on the firewall?
