im starting the stockfloor on my 720. this is my first i have a shit load of 2x3 and i think 3 inch will be too tall will laying the tubing the other way so it is 2 inches tall take away structural integrity? i just plan on flipping it that way under the cab

Look at Seth's truck first. (Twistedminis) It'll tell you volumes about what it takes to lay a 720 out. He figured out what I had been looking at on mine forever. I thought it would work but never could get it done.

Yes the strength of the frame is in the vertical cross section. Put a 2x4 across a couple of boards and stand in the middle, then try the same thing with the 2x4 standing the other way and notice the difference.

i guess i should have worded that different i know it definitly stronger not laying it flat but would it be strong enough to build that part of the frame that way? ive seen 2x2 frames, i just wasnt if that extra inch in width would make it unsafe

what a lot of people dont realize is a stock floor, is not a stock floor. you gotta raise your tranny tunnel and in some instances, you gotta flatten the floor out where the new frame rails might protrude some.

2x3 upright will def get you on the rockers. you just have to get the 2x3 done, body mounts lowered and go from there.

if you do infact lay it flat.....just throw in an extra crossmember under the cab. there are ways to stregthen the frame without ruining the fact your trying to keep as much of the floor stock as possible.

that crossmember doesnt replace the strength you are taking away.... sure you could probably get away with using it layed over, and could probably build an entire frame out of 2x2... but is it the right way? no.... and besides if you have ever stockfloored a minitruck before, you will find out you dont want the floor under about 3.5" tall anyways because of all the lines and exhaust and shit you will have to put up under there... i had a 720 i stockfloored like 4 years ago and used 2.5x2.5 3/16" wall and it worked, but i had to raise alot of the floor with a 4.25" bodydrop... and there was alittle too much flex in it, but it did work and i drove it alot....
