Try this link, it refers to the topic "solid 4-link bars". Theres some good info in there.

DOM is not by any stretch necessary. It is stronger, but plain seamed tubing is stong enough.

Plain seemed tubing is strong enough absolutly, DOM is is great for high stress situations. here is a good example

i know this is pretty big for 4 link bars but here is a good example.

1 1/2" 250 (or 1/4" thick) round tubing is 80,000 pounds per square inch

while the same tubing in DOM is 180,000 pounds per sq inch. You really think your 4 link bars are going to see 80,000 pounds?? Or anywhere near a 1/4 of that weight. If your mounting the bags on the bars you should be using a gusset or square tubing anyways. Dom is good for high performance and high stress situations only.

yes it is, therefore if you have threaded bars your threads will rip out before you have an issue with your 4 link.

since this thread has been answered fully, i wanted to add on about the solid link bars. actually its a question.

i have seen quite a few people lately having things laser cut from 2 inch plate, or something similar. I can get 1 inch plate, at the metal yard as scrap and wanted to know what you thought of this.

Would this be TOO heavy and mess with the way things acted, or TOO weak strength wise. Mind you its for an upper link, lowers would be 2x2 square, or laser cut 3/16 and boxed.

Would it be best to have it all laser cut and welded, or is it okay to have it 1 inch plate?
