efi is better for supercharger or turbocharger operation because tuning a carb is only great at one area of the power curve (even if it might be good, ok, or passable at other areas), and turbo/super applications are more sensitive to climate change.

You can do a blow through, or a draw through. The draw through is what they used on the old turbo firebird V8's in I think 80? he carb is mounted to the turbo inlet and both gas and air is compressed in the turbo. These are easy to make but hard to tune because sometimes the draw of the turbo will hold the throttle plates open, giving you a perpetual machine of sorts (till it runs out of gas).
A blow through works like it sounds, where the turbo compresses air and it pushes compressed air through the carb. These are pretty easy to build too, except that you must modify the carb to work under pressure to keep from pushing fuel out of the bowls and into vacuum lines. You can do it by having the carb modified to work under pressure, or you can build the oulet of the turbo to feed into a box that completely encases the carb. Backfires with carbs in a box can be catastophic for obvious reasons, you cant even see it burning.

Either way, a carb application will make LESS hp, be capable of LESS boost, and be LESS efficient than even the factory EFI system modified with larger injectors to work with a turbo.

If you want more info on the basics of turbocharging, go to the tech and faq sections of sdsefi.com
