i have a th400 from tci and was wondering what the big hole is in the drivers side of it close to the tailshaft?

im pretty sure its the speedo gear hole

speedo gear hole is correct. the cable should have a retainer on it with a small hole a small bolt to hold the retainer and the gear in.

holy shit speedo hole? its looks almost 2" in diameter! so i guess it doesnt use the traditional threaded speedo sensor? so is there something special i have to buy to get an autometer sending unit to work on it?

can i get one of these gems:

and just use a GM plug to run an autometer gauge?
cookiemonster13   +1y
that is what it is made for but i am not sure about compatability with autometer. you would have to call them and see. it should if you have some of those new autosetting fancy electronic speedo.

the electronic autometer speedos can use a standard GM 2 wire plug....

My TH350 has a speedo hole then it also has a larger hole, with a cover on it, behind it on the tailshaft. I think thats where the govener is.

ive got a th350 and a th400 in my shop, the th400 is way different! its cool that i just have to shorten my driveshaft 1" from having an nv3500 (even uses the same front yoke!!), but the other stuff sucks... also, what do you need to run the electric kickdown deal?
cookiemonster13   +1y
cris lokar has a electronic kick down kit you can use.
