IF I GET NEW UPPER BARS, THAT ARE POLY ENDS ON 1.5" BARS; DO I HAVE TO GUSSET THE BARS TO RUN THE BAGS ON THEM? I'M PLANNING TO REDO MY REAR SETUP AND WANT A LITTLE MORE LIFT THAN I PRESENTLY HAVE. THANKS

what wall thickness bars are you going to run?

where on the bar are you plaing on putting the bags, center, closer to axle, or closer to front mount? Truck weight will be a factor also, is this a truck or SUV? Are you going to be towing or hauling heavy?

Exp: if you are building a dually to pull car haulers you do not mount those on the bars. You can(its your truck) we just dont recomend it.
EXP: if you have a light ass toyota and you are not pulling any thing with it just driving and you mount the bag closer to the axle 1.5x.25 wall bars will hold the weight, but with the same truck anything farther from axle then center(and on center) on the bars should be gusseted(braced) up. We bend up some more tube(1") and build some cool under guessets, but you can make them from flat plate too.

I talked to Max about this recently. He said with 1.5" it is a good idea to run a gusset. It sounded like it was pretty much required, even if the bag was close to the axle.

would it make any difference if my bars are fairly short, like 22"? they are also .25 wall 1.5 OD. i just thought they would be less likely to bend since they are short.

I'm gonna agree with gussets on anything under than 2". I did one of the first trucks I bagged with 1.5 round and it seems ok, but I haven't had a look at it to be sure. But now that I have laser access I pretty much gusset anything I can. haha.

you might get away with it but it would be better to not worry about it..id run a gusset
