Steering Rack and reversing spindles

Max my question for you is this. Is it possible to swap your spindles from one side to the other? What im getting at is that the caliper on the spindle is to the rear of the rotor and the mounting point for the Rack and pinion and tie rod end is and the front. Would it be possible to swap sides then place the rack further back rather then in the front? Would there be any adverse affects in braking with the calipers in the front? Its something I have had kicking around in my head and never come up with a good answer searching on my own, so I figured the only dumb question is the question unasked.
