So my dad and I were just doing some general work on my truck. We were checking the level of the transmision fluid and he accidentaly removed the bottom plug on it. Well that drained a lot of the fluid. What I am needing to know is how much I need to put back in. I don't know exactly how much drained but I am planning on draining the whole thing.

I have a 89 s154cyl motor with 5 speed tranny. The tranny fluid that was in their was the thinner red stuff(AT fluid is what my book said)

Please if someone can help.

you should have a fill on the pass side, about halfway up the tranny... you fill til it comes out....

Thanks for the help. I called a local GM dealership and asked a service guy there. He told me 6 quarts. I used 3.

No I used Dexron 3. My owners manual and Chilton manual told to use Dexron 2. I went to a few different places(NAPA, Shucks, Autozone) and was told Dexron 2 isn't made anymore and to use 3.

Mine takes the auto tranny fluid.

And it seems to shift fine.
My tranny is a little on the loud side but it has been that way since I bought the truck. Not really sure why it is loud but you can hear it over the stereo once I hit 4th/5th gear
