Fuel system help....

I just picked up a 78 chevy luv from this chick that coudlnt get it runnin for a good price... Ive got it runnin now but Cant keep it driving. It idels for hours if it wants to but as soon as u start drivin it putters out after 5 mins. So far we put a new fuel pump and new fuel filter made sure that none of the fuel lines are clogged and cleaned the little filter out in the carb. Whats left?? The carb was just rebuilt and is fully functioning. Im lost.... why will it idle for so long yet not stay runnin when u start drivin it?? NE help would be appreciated

i actually had the same problem with a nissan 720 i had. it turned out to be the alternator was going bad.

your symptoms mimic mine and that was my problem. it even seemed like a fuel problem but what is was. it would still turn over but there was not enough juice to keep the coil going. it was weird but you may want to check it.

well so far all the issues have been with the fuel system so I figured it have to be with that but I suppose it cant hurt to check. Thanx for the advise
