I just purchased my toyota from this guy in arizona. I got the truck and the title.ButIt had been signed from the owner before him giving the guy i purchased it from ownership. And the guy who i purchased it from signed his area of the title for the NEW OWNER section. And he sent it to me like this..

He obviously never had it registered in his name. I can't get a hold of him. I had an e-mail from someone he knows saying he's going to send me a " bill of sale" hopefully notorized. Can i use that bill of sale to get the title in my name? I heard you can from a friend and my Tax Collectors office is closed now to ask them. The guy has not called me back in over 2 weeks about this and by now im sure he isn't. What can i do if the bill of sale doesn't work? Phone authorities since he sold something that wasn't his?

did he sign it any where else or is that the only place he signed it

You'll need a power of attorney from him then with that you'll transfer the title into his name and then from his to yours. I just had to do that with a truck I bought a couple months ago. Pain in the ass and you'll probably get stuck with any fees and penalties AZ imposed on the truck for not having it registered.

ill tell you how to do it....not exactly legal but i have done this and it works.......where he signed his name add youre name after it.so it will look like this"his name and youre name" be sure to use the word and..dont use or...then when the title comes back in both ur names sign his name off of it. and register it again in only youre name....that way is easyer and not a bunch of bullshit to go through

If you use "And" on the title you will need the other guy present to take his name off.
"Or" means either of you could title the truck.

actually....if u put or on the title( in tennessee) u have to have the same last name..but if u put and on it...i have never had to have the other guy present to take his name off

Yeah, I co-owned a boat with a guy and we had to put "his name and/or my name". That way either of us could change the title or registration without the other one being there.

So with this title where he signed it, even though its dated back in 06 when he signed it i can take it using "and" then my name on the same line i can get it registered? then i can re-write it to me? I just want to make sure?

And the power of attorney route, if i did that i would stick him with all the fee's F* that this guy was a fool for doing it this way anyways

The way it works in Florida, as far as I know, if it says "and" then you both need to be present when you go to the tax collector. If you put "and/or" then you can do it without him being there. This was a few years ago, but I doubt it has changed.
