The best things to start on would a flat, however working on many types of old things will just make u that much better because you will be use to different areas of working. I have always used "one shot" paints and love em. I use mack brushed and the kafka brushes are pretty badass too. The best thing for me to do when striping is to not focus so hard that your nervous and in a fridged state but to be relaxed calm maybe have a beer or two and just think of pulling your hand staright down just start out by pulling staright down lines and then see how well those came out. Also brush pressure is key try to stay with the same brush pressure all the way through your pull in the beginning. This does take time and practice to achieve perfect everytime. Some designs call for different pressure in mid stroke but for starting you don'y want to get the crazy yet. I first started with an old bike helmet my buddy wrecked with and tried matching the lines of the design on his helmet which worked awesome because it was plastic and I could wipe it down with mineral spirits or any acetone and I can try it again. Hope some of this may help.

Practice on a piece of glass, that way you can wipe it back off and do it over and over again... I use mack and kafka brushes and I have tried one shot, HOK and alsa striping paints they all have ups and downs but for all around striping I would say HOK or ALSA, as they are not oil based and if you plan to clear over them you will have less of a headache from doing it. Also try looking at kustomkulturelounge.com there are quite a few talented stripers and airbrushers there, including craig fraser.

deffinitly check out sketchkult.com forums pretty much every question has already been asked, so just do some searchin.
and once your comfortable with flat panels, stripe all your tools. everything in my garage is covered from when i was learning. it helps with doing wierd angles.
