When layed flat, is 3x2 that much stronger than 2x2? I don't meanif it were hit from the side, but rather from the top. Looking to start a table for my frame, and don't necessarily like the price of 3x2 for just that.

If I get the amount I need I will have enough to brace it in corners if need be, but it wouldn't really be pieces I could use on the frame if I bought 3x2 for the table.

That's a tough question to answer accurately.

I think that if you were to use 2x2 for a frame table, you should be fine. If you plan on building racecar chassis on it, you would need to step up a bit.

I use 2 big-ass I beams for my frame fixture, it's heavy as hell, but don't flex much. They are on rollers and can be widened to fit my needs.

I doubt my local steel places has any H beams but that could be used for a bit more than just a table.

Check with your local scrap yard if you're looking for some I beam to build a frame table from. The last time I was at my local yard there was a ton of it there from a building demo. Some yards will re sell and some won't but its worth a shot.

They do have some, I will have to see about how it could be used and put away when im done.
