I just bought a 94 x-cab ranger off of craigs list. The tranny is stuck in park. It is a 4.0L auto. I was wondering if anyone has had the same prob and if so what was it? What tranys will work with that motor? I have 2, 2.3L standard tranys setting around and all the parts to change it to standard if that would work. Will a 3.0L trany work? Any help would be great.

nope it has to be a 4.0 tranny or it wont bolt up. you can use in the internals out of the 2.3 trans in a 4.0 case tho. have you tried crawling under the truck and taking the cable off and trying to shift it manually? if that is the case its in the shift cable/shifter area. also if the wire is off that shows you what gear its in in the steering column it wont shift either.

Thanks for the tip on the 2.3L internals!!! I may have to take advantage of that!

The cable is broke and I have already tried to manualy shift it and it wont work. The guy said he came home and parked in front of the garage and when he came out to move it it wouldnt come out of park. Just all at once with no warning.
