Well i am finally doing a v8 swap after years of putting it off. Got a motor, tranny, and what not....but a rear end I do not. I do though have a ford 9 I think I can get but my question is, how do I set it up? like how do I get everything centered, do I relocate my leaf spring seats or put new ones on the ford 9...I wouldn't mind seeing for pics of ford 9 rear ends if I could. Any help would be great....thanks

With your truck on its suspension, take cross measurements from fixed points on your frame then to your factory rearend. Also mark your axel centerline on your frame. Then when you go to set your ford 9 in place set it based off of the measurements you took. as far as locating the rearend I would set up some form of a link style suspension.

You cant get the third member and the yoke centered if thats what your asking. You can do it if you have it narrowed with diff length axles on each side. Id take measurments side to side. Like where the backing plates bolt to the housing. Should be 4 bolts.

What benefits could a Yota diff possibly have over a 9"? You can set up a 9" any way you want it.(gears, width, disk or drums, bolt pattern configuration) Not to mention you can get any thing & every thing after market and upgraded for them. It has to be one of the strongest rearends out there unless you get into 1ton diffs.

you dont need strength of a ford 9 in any mazda unless you plan on drag racing..yota rears are 30spline and plenty durable.there are two sizes 55" and 58" from WMS-WMS ford rears are heavy, have a off-center pinion, just plain overkill.

The toyota 4x4 rearend will hold up just as good as a ford 9" they make just as many gears and they are a 1/2" narrower than a mazda so they are a lot easier to put in.
