the clear coat is flaking off of a tonnue cover but the paint is still good could i just wetsand the clear off and reclear it or do i have to repaint it all

if im not mistaken you could sand past the clear and reclear it. im no expert though - i custom paint.........homes!

youll eventually burn thru the base once u try 2 feather out the clear what i would do is hit it with 320 grit then primer it or u could hit it with 320 then 400 and shoot sealer then ur base and clear

ya if you burn through the base, you'll need to add some color.....but keep in mind, clears the expensive part, base is like $25 at quart.

if the clear is peeling..that means you already have spots of exposed base...no way you can just reclear it...depending on the reason its peeling...it would be wise to strip off all of the clear and either seal it and paint it..or put a coat of primer/surfacer on it before you repaint it
