Hi guys. First, my truck is a 90 B2200 automatic. Motor was redone about 1K miles ago. Not had any trouble with trans. Coming to work today, it started this shit where it wants to stumble and fall on it's face, but you kick it into neutral, and the motor runs fine. I'm thinking is trans related but what? Please help me out. I don't know if the damned thing will make it home. The engine and trans are stock. Thanks.

I have an 88 auto, i thought the tranny was giving me problems with the same thing as yours....ended up being the good old fuel filter...

Could be the fuel filter, could be the torque converter, could be a vacuum leak (those trannies have vacuum controls). I would check the fuel filter and vacuum hoses first and if nothing them see if it does it when you put it in 1, 2, drive and you may be able to make it home in 2 if it doesn't do it.

^^ im w/ kris. knock out the easy nickel and dime stuff first. was the a/c or defrog on when it did this? cause it could be that the idle isnt stepping up enough when the a/c or defrog is on. (a lot of defrosters run the compressor to keep it oiled year round) and it could be the iac (idle air control valve) thats stickin... (well, this is all IF it has a/c and IF any of those things were on!)

Okay, update, kinda. Changed fuel filter, and that got me home with out too much fuss. It did hickup a few times, but none of the crap it did on the way. I'm gonna drive it to work again tomorrow, and we'll see what happens. As far as what some of you guys pointed out, the a/c wasn't on. Where is the IAC, and how do I check it? Also, what spray is still flamable enough to check for vacuum leaks?

Thanks for the good advice, too. I really appreciate it.

use carb and choke cleaner to check for vacuum leaks it works great there is one main line that runs right behind the engine to the tranny and controls the shifting I had low compression on mine when I first got it and the guy I got it off of thought it needed a tranny because of that.

best thing to use for vacuum leaks is a propane torch with out the flame... simply crank the torch on high (BUT DONT LIGHT IT!!!) and wave it around the suspected areas. when i sputters or dies (or in some cases, revs up)- you found it!

not sure where the iac is on that truck man... probably could get a part location from autozone or advanced auto.
